No. 1, Nicolae Balcescu Street

Description:

A ground floor and two floors building. Along with two other buildings they form two courtyards.
The eclectic facade is divided into eleven axes with two access corridors. 

The commemorative plaque on the building refers to Tribuna newspaper, which had its first office here between the years 1884-1889 and whose editor was the famous Romanian poet George Cosbuc “In this place was Tribuna newspaper’s editorial and among its editors was, between 1887-1889, the famous Romanian poet George Cosbuc”

History:

In the old building Ioan Slavici’s Tribuna had its first office between 1884-1889.
Here was the office of the largest insurance bank from Transylvania, opened in 1868.
In the building behind building no 3 was, since 1900, Emil Fischer’s photographic studio.

Denumirea oficiala a fost Banca de Asigurari Transilvania , adica Versicherungsbank, deci nu Versicherungsgesellschaft.

Banca Transilvania nu mi-se pare corect. Este vorba da Societatea de Asigurari "Transsylvania", a carei plachete frumos emailate se gaseau pe mai toate casele, mai ales la sate.

Aveti dreptate, aici au mai functionat multe magazine importante pentru Sibiul interbelic dar noi am inclus doar o parte din ele. ()
Multumim pentru precizari privind Wilhelm Viktor Augustin, o sa-l adaugam pe site.
Ramanem la parerea ca drogheria lui Loew a avut sediul in celalalt capat al strazii Balcescu la nr. 32.

Pe langa pravaliile lui Wermescher si Connerth a existat si parfumeria lui V.W.Augustin, o pravalie cu articole de calitate si de lux pentru doamnele Sibiului.Proprietarul Augustin a fost originar din Brno.Alaturi a fost drogheria lui Löw.
